Link in bio for outdoor, hiking and gear review creators

For gear reviewers, hikers and campers: which affiliate networks outdoor retailers use, how to link products at the timestamp, and how to see sales per video.

Updated

Outdoor creators usually mention a dozen products per video, from tents and stoves to socks, and the affiliate programs for that gear are spread across several networks. That makes it hard to know which videos actually pay for the trips. You need one page that holds every link, and sales reported per video wherever your networks allow it.

Where outdoor affiliate programs live

Outdoor retail is split across a few networks. Two examples, checked as of October 2026:

  • REI Co-op runs its affiliate program on AvantLink. Third-party listings disagree on the commission and cookie window, so read the terms inside AvantLink.
  • Backcountry has run its program on both AvantLink and Impact. Affiliate directories currently list Impact as the active network.

AvantLink focuses on outdoor and specialty brands, so many smaller gear brands are there too. Others use Impact, CJ or Awin, and Amazon covers almost everything else. Before you join, find the brand's own affiliate page, which names the network.

Why it matters: whether a sale can be tied to a video depends on whether the network can report it back. Vyrl receives sales from Impact, CJ, Awin and Everflow by postback, and from Amazon by report upload. It does not receive AvantLink sales today. AvantLink links still work on your page and get click counts per video, and their sales stay in AvantLink's reports.

Setting up a gear video

On camera

Give the video a word, like vyrl.at/yourname/stove, and say it once early and once at the end: "Everything I used is at vyrl dot at slash yourname slash stove." In long gear lists, say the product name clearly when you show it. Viewers look for it on your page by that name, and it helps the AI assistant below too.

In the description

Put the video address on the first line. Then list your chapters with the product names:

0:00 Intro
1:42 Tent: [model name]
4:10 Stove: [model name]
6:35 Sleeping pad: [model name]
All gear: vyrl.at/yourname/stove

Every link also has its own short link (vyrl.at/yourname/go/{code}), which goes straight to the product. That's handy for a single hero product, but only the video address ties the visit to the video. If you want to know what this video earned, send people to the video address and let them pick the product on your page.

Name links on your page the same way you name them in the video. "Stove: [model name]" is easier to find than "Cooking stuff."

In your bio

Use a share link per place: vyrl.at/yourname/yt on YouTube, vyrl.at/yourname/ig on Instagram. Words and share links combine, so vyrl.at/yourname/stove/ig credits both.

Always share Vyrl addresses, never the network's raw link. A raw link skips Vyrl, so the sale can't be matched to a click or a video.

Seasonal videos

Gear content comes back every year. A spring backpacking list or a winter layering video often gets found again each season. A video word keeps working as long as you keep it, so last year's video keeps reporting sales under its own name.

Two habits help:

  • Before the season, check last year's earners. Look at which videos earned during the same months last year. Update the links on the ones that still sell, especially if a product has been discontinued.
  • Compare earnings per click, not clicks. A $500 tent review might get lots of browsing clicks and few sales. A $25 headlamp video might earn more per click. EPC shows which.

Answering "what was that?"

Gear videos get the same questions in every comment section: what stove was that at 4:10, what size pack is that. The "Ask me" assistant on your page answers from your own video transcripts, cites the moment in the video, links only products you confirmed and shows your affiliate disclosure. When fit depends on the person, like pack torso length or shoe width, it says what you tried and your own measurements instead of claiming it will suit the fan.

What you'll see

The dashboard shows commission and earnings per click by video, by link and by place for every connected network. For example, a trail-running shoe video with 250 clicks and $50 in commission earns $0.20 per click. A tent video with 600 clicks and $30 earns $0.05. There's a live click feed, and a daily email with the previous day's revenue.

For AvantLink and other networks Vyrl doesn't connect to, you see clicks by video and link. You can divide your AvantLink commission by those clicks yourself to estimate EPC.

What Vyrl doesn't do

  • It doesn't receive AvantLink sales. Clicks are counted, sales stay in AvantLink.
  • It doesn't replace any network's reporting. Networks approve sales, handle returns and pay you.
  • It doesn't sell your own digital products, like trail guides or presets, with a checkout. Link to wherever you sell them.

Pricing

Free forever for one page, unlimited links and click analytics by link and source. Revenue per video, postbacks, the AI assistant and the daily revenue email are on the Creator plan: $4/month, or $3.20/month billed yearly in the US, and less in many countries. You keep 100% of your commission. See pricing.

Questions

Which affiliate network does REI use?

REI's affiliate program runs on AvantLink, a network that focuses on outdoor and specialty brands. Check the program page inside AvantLink for current commission and cookie terms, since third-party sites list different numbers.

Do outdoor gear videos keep earning after the season ends?

Often, yes. Gear reviews and packing lists get found again each time the season comes around, so an older video can out-earn a new one. You only see this if sales are reported per video.

How do I link a product at a specific timestamp in my video?

List the product name next to the chapter timestamp in your description, and make sure the same product is on your link page under the same name. Viewers who want it can find it in seconds.

Can Vyrl receive sales from AvantLink?

Not today. Vyrl receives sales from Impact, CJ, Awin and Everflow by postback, and from Amazon by report upload. AvantLink links still get click counts per video, and their sales stay in your AvantLink reports.
