Video Links and Share Links: Track Clicks by Video and Place
How Vyrl video addresses like vyrl.at/name/storm and share links like /tt work, how to combine them, where to put each one, and what the dashboard shows.
Updated
A video address is your page address plus a word for one video, like vyrl.at/yourname/storm, and every click and sale from a visit through it is credited to that video. A share link is your page address plus a word for one place you post it, like vyrl.at/yourname/tt for your TikTok bio, and it breaks results down by place. You can combine them, vyrl.at/yourname/storm/tt, to see both the video and the place.
All of them open the same page. Visitors see your normal links. The difference is only in how the clicks are counted.
Why you need both
Affiliate networks count sales per link. Your page counts visits per address. To know what earned money, you need two answers:
- Which video? A viewer watched something before tapping. The video address records it.
- Which place? The same page sits in your TikTok bio, your YouTube channel links and your Instagram bio. The share link records which one.
The plain page address, vyrl.at/yourname, still works everywhere. Visits through it count as your page, with the traffic source taken from where the visitor came from when that is known.
Video addresses
Choosing a word
Each video gets one word after your name. It must be:
- 2 to 32 characters long;
- lowercase letters and numbers, with
-or_allowed between them; - not already used by another of your videos or share links;
- not one of the words Vyrl keeps for its own pages, such as
go,ask,shoporlinks.
The best words are short, easy to say, and impossible to mishear. storm beats stormtentreview2026. Avoid words that sound like other words, and avoid numbers that viewers might type as words.
Addresses are matched in lowercase, so viewers can type capitals without breaking anything.
Where to use it
| Where | What to post | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Said on camera | vyrl.at/yourname/storm |
Works on any platform, even where links in captions aren't clickable |
| On-screen text | the same address | Viewers on mute still see it |
| Long YouTube description | the address, or the address plus /yt |
Description links are clickable on long-form videos |
| YouTube pinned comment | the address plus /yt |
Many viewers read comments before the description |
| Shorts, TikTok, Reels captions | the address as plain text | Viewers can type it, and say it on camera too |
YouTube stopped making links in Shorts descriptions and comments clickable in August 2023, citing spam. For Shorts, saying the address and showing it on screen does more than a caption link. The same habit helps on TikTok and Reels, where your link usually lives in your bio. A visitor who taps the bio link and a visitor who types the video address land on the same page, but only the second one tells you which video sent them.
Keep addresses alive
Old videos keep getting views for years. If you delete a video in Vyrl, its address stops working, so keep videos in Vyrl as long as the video is still up.
Share links
A share link is a word for one place you post your page. Create them under Links. Common examples:
/ttfor your TikTok bio/ytfor your YouTube channel links or About page/igfor your Instagram bio/emailfor your newsletter footer
Share links use the same rules as video words, and a word can't be both a video and a share link.
Post each share link only in its place. If you paste /tt into your Instagram bio, Instagram traffic will be counted as TikTok traffic.
Combining them
When one video runs in several places, add the share word after the video word:
vyrl.at/yourname/storm/ytin the YouTube descriptionvyrl.at/yourname/storm/ttin a TikTok caption
If the share word is mistyped or has been removed, the visitor is sent to the video's own address, so the click still counts for the video. A share link on its own takes no second word.
For spoken addresses, keep it to the video word. "vyrl.at slash yourname slash storm" is easy to remember. Adding a fourth part out loud is not.
Short links for single products
Each link on your page also has its own short link, vyrl.at/yourname/go/ plus a code, copied from Links. It goes straight to that one product, skipping your page. Use it where a single product link makes sense, such as a story sticker or an email. Clicks are credited to the link and the traffic source, but not to a video, because the visitor never passed through a video address. In video descriptions, the video address is usually the better choice.
One rule applies to all of them: share your Vyrl links, never the network's raw affiliate link. A raw link skips Vyrl, so its sales can't be matched to a click, a video or a place.
What you see in the dashboard
Every click through your page is recorded with the link, the video and the place. When a network reports a sale by postback, or you import an Amazon earnings report, the sale is credited to the click that led to it. The dashboard then shows:
- clicks, sales, commission and earnings per click (EPC) by video;
- the same by link, to see which products earn;
- the same by place, to compare TikTok, YouTube and Instagram;
- a live click feed as clicks happen;
- a daily revenue email.
A worked example of what this reveals is in which video made the sale. For reading the numbers, see affiliate earnings per click.
Getting started
- Create your page at vyrl.at, or import your Linktree.
- Add a share link for each place your page appears, and put each one in its bio.
- Before you publish a video, add it in Vyrl with a word, and say the address on camera.
- Connect your affiliate networks so sales come back. Start with Impact, Awin or Everflow.
Click analytics by link and source are free. Revenue per video and affiliate postbacks are part of the Creator plan; see pricing.
Questions
What is the difference between a video address and a share link?
A video address names one video, so clicks and sales from it are credited to that video. A share link names one place you post your page, such as your TikTok bio, so results are broken down by place.
Can I use a video address and a share link together?
Yes. Put the share word after the video word, like vyrl.at/yourname/storm/yt, when one video is posted in more than one place and you want both answers.
Does capitalization matter when viewers type a video address?
No. Addresses are matched in lowercase, so STORM and storm reach the same video. Choosing a word that is easy to spell matters more.
What happens if someone mistypes the share link part?
If the video word is right but the share word isn't one of yours, the visitor is sent to the video's own address, so the click still counts for the video.
Do I need a new video address for every video?
Only for videos where you want sales tracked separately. Videos without one still send traffic through your page and share links, counted by place.
